Char Dham Guide
What is the Char Dham Yatra?
In Uttarakhand, the Char Dham circuit refers to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The journey is traditionally completed in that order and is valued both as a physical pilgrimage and a spiritual progression.
Best travel window
The yatra season generally aligns with the annual temple opening months. Travelers usually prefer late spring and early autumn for a better balance of accessibility, weather, and crowd levels.
Route basics
Most journeys begin from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun. The full road circuit can take around 10 to 12 days, while helicopter-assisted plans shorten the Kedarnath and broader route logistics.
Fitness and altitude
Kedarnath is usually the most demanding segment. Pacing, hydration, warm layers, and realistic expectations matter more than aggressive scheduling. Families and senior pilgrims often benefit from slower transitions or upgraded support.
